Public Relations Director/Senior Manager
Reports to: US P&L Lead
We are seeking a talented individual to join our team as Director/Senior Manager of Public Relations. The position is based at our corporate offices in Chicago.
The Director of Public Relations will be responsible for high-level planning and direction of Enova’s PR strategy as well as execution of the strategic plan. This person will be responsible for delivering on the goal of publicizing Enova positively as the leading provider of financial products and services to underserved consumers worldwide.
This role will help maintain cooperative affiliations with the media, consumers, elected officials and other key external stakeholders. This position calls for an imaginative, experienced self-starter who is eager to strategically oversee and execute ideas that align with the company’s mission and objectives. The Director of Public Relations will have significant responsibility and impact on the company, which could lead to future leadership opportunities. This person would also be expected to provide advice and executional support, as appropriate, for Enova’s product brands (CashNetUSA, QuickQuid, Dollars Direct, PoundstoPocket, etc.).
The ideal candidate will have five to ten years of formal public relations experiences with top shelf agencies/consulting firms/corporations, crisis PR expertise, issues management familiarity, business and hard news media contacts, contacts in elected and appointed government, a collaborative work style and proven leadership ability. The individual sought will ideally have current Washington, D.C. “Hill” responsibilities in public affairs/ public relations with a high profile, globally branded organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for Public Relations for Enova and product brands, as needed
- ‘Own’ Enova corporate messaging, driving positive business impact and mitigating negative coverage. Proactively initiate and execute new concepts and strategies that promote the reputation of the company within agreed-to strategy
- Craft corporate messaging to ensure it is clear, succinct and easily understood at all levels of the company and general public
- Respond and serve as a primary spokesperson for media inquiries, mitigating negative press; act as company spokesperson as needed, presenting Enova’s POV with impact and in ways consistent with brand positioning
- Provide communications counseling/training to senior management to enhance the company’s success by applying proactive and reactive communications strategy
- Work in conjunction with Government Relations, Legal, Copywriting/Content, and P&L teams
- Ensure execution of public relations-related exposure goals
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with the media – including local and national newspapers, trade magazines, bloggers, radio, and television – and company spokespersons and community organizations to enhance company’s image
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in public relations, communications, journalism or related field; accreditation a plus and advanced degree preferred
- Experienced professional with 5-10 years in public relations, ideally supporting a heavily regulated and publicly traded business or former Director of Communications for a political candidate; and with demonstrated excellence in Public Relations. Business/financial PR or media/journalism experience is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, polished executive presence and the ability to interface effectively with staff at all levels and external influencers in the government and financial services arenas
- Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative and discretion with integrity
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment against tight deadlines
- Strong organizational skills; capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Insightful editorial skills and sound business judgment
- Highly self-motivated with hands-on implementation and execution skills
- Knowledge of federal and state government functions a plus
- Well-developed network of media contacts and relationships
- Ability to counsel senior management, deal effectively with key constituents and provide strategic direction
- Results-oriented, with a discipline of measurement and improvement
